From Threading the Needle

Here is an excerpt I found:
A man who was walking down a deserted beach, noticed a local native in the distance who was picking up soemthing, and tossing it into the water.
What's he doing? The man thought to himself.
When they were close enough, the man could see that the native was throwing starfish back into the water.
"If I don't throw these starfish back into the sea, they'll die on the beach," the native explained.
"But there must be thousands f starfish on this beach. You can't possibly get to all of them. There are simply too many. Can't you see that you cannot possibly make a difference?"
The local man smiled, bent down, and picked up another starfish, and as he threw it back into the ocean, he replied, " Made a difference to that one" :) -by Lowell Paxson

Just Joshin' With You

My favorite joke when I was younger is kind of silly in retrospective:
*What do you call two oranges in love?
Orange Crush
Here's another great one. lol
*What do you call it when two chips are dating?
A relationchip.
Yep cough cough.... I'm sad.

The Rubicon

I have reached the rubicon-the time to make decisions that will affect the rest of my life. This time last year I had just graduated from Bishop's. I was excited to finally enter the "real" world, and yet scared that I would fall flat on my face. I moved to PEI and spent the summer with my dad and his family. I worked at Cavendish COWS for the summer as a supervisor and enjoyed it. In mid-August a friend from Bishop's secured me a job interview with her boss. The company flew me to Toronto. I told all my family I may live in T dot. I arrived and knew the lifestyle was not for me. Sadly, I returned to tell my family I still didn't know what I was doing this year. That night I received an e-mail from my old roommate from Bishop's. She wondered how I made out because she possibly had a job lined up for me. The job was in British Columbia. I had a phone interview the next day and was told I had to decide ASAP for the job would be given away within 2 weeks. So I quit my job the next day and went to Nova Scotia to say goodbye to my family. I was lucky; my old roommate (Melissa) also had an extra room in her apartment. A job, a place to live, and a friend- it was too good to be true. Well a lot has happened this year, but those stories are to be told at another time. I work at UBC, commuting 3 hours per day from White Rock. I felteverything was worth it, explore Western Canada while paying off my student loans. It's funny to think that I went across Canada for a job. That was a good example of spontaneity. Well my year is almost up. Now I'm moving to Alberta for my Master's. I always thought Alberta was too far away from home, but after being in British Columbia it is no longer an issue. I never thought my life would flow like this, but hey I'm enjoying the ride so far. Lots of decisions must be made now. The two most important decisions in one's life (I believe) are what you're going to do everyday (job) and who you marry. I wish I was already 40 with kids, picket fence, etc... but then again the excitement of what comes next may be less then. Oh well, life is to be lived. I'm sure living it so far.

Caffachino's

Spent 3 hours with my friend Jessica tonight at Sherbooke's finest coffee place-Caffachino's. It was so nice to finally relax and talk with an old friend.

A Spontaneous Trip to Bos-Ton!

After camping in New Hamsphire, Devin and I spontaneously decided to continue driving south to Boston, Massachusetts! He had never been there, but I had a long time a go. The day was fabulous. We took in the sights and the sounds. We followed the water and the walking path throughout the city. It has quite a small town feel. My highlight of the day was visiting the monument for Bunker Hill. It is a tall building that commemorates those Americans who had fallen to the British on June 17, 1775. We were lucky enough to climb the many steps to the top and overlook the city.

The only real disappointment in Boston were the many disgusting bathrooms! Yuck!

Devin and I ended up in a downpour so we discovered the market in a hurry, but so did everyone else it appeared.

We decided to check out the subway system. To my surprise there was a Porter stop (my infamous last name)! Yep the stop following Harvard. We checked out Harvard and returned to see the movie "The Interpreter." One of Kidman's finest! Then it was back to Lennoxville, Quebec. Took about 5 hours with the fog. Yawn. It was an enjoyable weekend full of activities!

Hiking in New Hampshire-The Land of No Man

So I'm tired today due to a busy weekend. Devin and I drove early Saturday morning to New Hamsphire to hike in the White Mountains. They were huge! It was my first time in the area, but not for Devin. He had hiked the mountains many times. For me hiking was fairly new! I didn't realise what I had gotten myself into! Well the day turned out to be beautiful day except when it poured a bit just as we were FINALLY reaching the top of Mount Fayette! It was all worth it in the end -even the sore legs! lol Coming down the mountian wasn't any easier. There was a lot of snow on the trail. (I'm not used to this white stuff having lived in British Columbia this past winter). :) I was never so happy to see the parking lot and just sit in the car.

After hiking it was time to find some fire wood. Devin was an experienced camper and I wasn't. He was in charge of the fire and logistics associated with it. Yes fire is more complicated than I thought. We arrived at the camp site (after hiking down the steep slope) just before dark. Plenty of time to get the fire going-so we thought. 3 hours later Devin and I were frustrated. His Boy Scotts' skills went out the door. We had no paper-well toilet paper, but that didn't help one bit. After night had fallen we gave up and retired for the day.
