The Last Unicorn

My roommate and I were having a discussion about unicorns. I heard a song on a TV sitcom and thought it was the 1970's song that talked about why we don't have unicorns anymore. Does anyone recall the name of the song? It goes something like "green aligators, and long... and...chimpanzees.." Yeah I'm horrible with the words, but I know it's a famous song. In the song the unicorns didn't make it because they fooled around and didn't care about going on the ark. I know there are even actions to this song. My roommate laughed at me and said he had never heard of such a song. He told me the reason unicorns no longer exist is protrayed in the movie "the Last Unicorn." I told him I never saw it and he freaked. I guess it's a good movie... So any thoughts why unicorns are not around, or are they?

yeah... the Irish Rovers sang it.

by the way, unicorns never existed?!

A long time ago when the earth was green,
There were more kinds of animals than you've ever seen,
They'd run around free while the earth was being born,
But the loveliest of all was the Unicorn.

There were green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
The loveliest of all was the Unicorn.

Now God seen some sinning and it gave Him pain,
And He said "Stand back, I'm going to make it rain."
He said "Hey brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do,
Build me a floating zoo. And take some of them...

Green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
Don't you forget My Unicorn."

Well Noah was there to answer the call,
And he finished making the ark just as the rain started to fall.
He marched in the animals two by two,
And he called out as they went through, "Hey Lord, I got your..."

Green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
I just don't see no Unicorn."

Well Noah looked out through the driving rain,
Those Unicorns were hiding, and playing silly games.
They were kicking and a-splashing while the rain was pouring down,
Oh them silly Unicorns.

There were green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Noah cried "Close the door, for the rain is pouring,
And we just can't wait for no Unicorn."

Well the ark started moving, it drifted with the tide.
Those Unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried,
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away,
And that's why you'll never see a Unicorn... to this very day.

You'll see green alligators and long necked geese,
Some humpty-back camels and some chimpanzees,
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
You're never gonna see no Unicorn
